On Wednesday, March 15, on a 52-48 vote, the House passed on 2nd reading HB 407, which provides for affordable housing abatements, sponsored by Rep. Dave Fern (D-Whitefish). The bill allows for municipalities to issue property tax abatements for owners who offer affordable rental housing. Since it is a money bill, HB 407 has now been referred to the House Appropriations Committee for further review. If it passes out of committee it will then go back to the House floor for another vote.
HB407 has been tabled (killed) in the House Appropriations Committee 14-9, so it won't go to the Senate.
