This coming Wednesday (2/26/25) at the County Commissioners meeting held in Libby and available to participate via zoom, the Commissioners will appoint a 5-member Parks Board for Eureka. An article in the Feb. 19 issue of the Tobacco Valley News provides details. Fourteen community members have applied, including 3 couples.
In previous communications with this North Lincoln County Democratic group, I have asked people to step up and get on County and School Boards, City Councils, etc. Well, two have. Please support Kirk Sullivan and Julie Hughes to the Parks Board by writing your Commissioners before Wednesday.
Kirk Sullivan has lived in this community for over 30 years; in his professional work he has worked with landowners on resource conservation, agricultural and grazing practices and forest practices that promote healthy and fire resistant forests. He has also coached soccer and baseball, was a member of the Eureka tree board, utilizes the Eureka Youth Sports Park for its pickle ball courts and enjoys Shakespeare in the Parks and Farmers Markets at the Historical Village. Both of these areas would be covered under the Eureka Parks Board. Kirk has said that he would like to promote actions that maintain and improve these two important parks in our community. Kirk would also like to promote a trail system that extends to end of the sidewalk north of town out to the Eureka Youth Sports Park.
Julie Hughes said that she wants to step up and do something for her community. She is an avid outdoor recreationist and understands the value of being out in nature and the value of sunshine in our cold gray winters. She is looking to bring her voice and a lifetime of experience in nature to the table. She wants to make sure there aren’t too many regulations on the Eureka Sports Park because of its value to the community. She would love to see a sledding hill with a warming hut somewhere in town. And would also love to see a bike path from town all the way to the border. Julie is excited to bring her energy and perspective to the Parks Board.
Thanks for participating in Democracy!
Ellen Sullivan
Secretary, Lincoln County Democrats
Because of all the support expressed for Kirk Sullivan and Julie Hughes, they were appointed to the two longest terms. The other Board members will be Bob Cuffe, Cory Hickman, and Josie Lockwood. Thanks to everyone who wrote in emails of support!
