Essential ballot info

Thanks to Montana Megaphone, here's the following information:

Absentee ballots were mailed out to all registered absentee voters in Montana. If you aren’t registered as an absentee voter, you won’t be receiving a ballot in the mail, and will need to vote in-person instead! Find your polling location here: https://www.voteinmt.org/where-to-vote

  • FYI: Mail-in voting is safe and secure and has been used in some form in the United States since the 19th century. States have rigorous checks and balances and security measures in place to ensure that election officials can quickly address incidents if they arise. You can even track your mail-in ballot online by visiting the Montana Secretary of State’s website: https://votemt.gov/

  • You can vote early! If you are a polling place voter but would like to vote early in-person, you can go to your county elections office to request an absentee ballot and vote on the same day until November 4th at noon.

  • If you are a registered absentee voter and haven’t received a ballot in the mail by Friday, 10/18, contact your county elections office - you can find the phone number for your county elections office here: https://www.voteinmt.org/where-to-vote

  • We recommend putting your completed ballot in the mail no later than Monday, 10/28 to make sure it reaches your county elections office in time - ballots received after 8pm on Election Day (Tuesday, 11/5) will not be counted. You can also deliver your ballot to your county elections office in-person before or on Election Day!

  • Montana has same-day voter registration! You can register to vote in-person through 8pm on Election Day at your local county elections office. Elections offices close at noon on Monday, 11/4 and reopen at 8am on Election Day.

  • If you’re voting in-person at your county elections office or at your local polling location on Election Day, you’ll need to bring a current, valid form of identification that verifies that you are a qualified voter. Appropriate forms of identification include:

    • Montana driver's license or Montana ID Card

    • United States passport

    • Student ID

    • Tribal ID card

    • Military photo ID card

    • Student photo ID card

    • Concealed carry permit

  • If you don't have any of the above forms of ID, you can bring an alternative form of photo ID that includes your name and picture OR a recent document that includes your name and current address (i.e. a recent pay stub, utility bill, bank statement, or other government document addressed to you). More information about MT voter ID requirements can be found here: https://votemt.gov/voter-identification/
