Monica Tranel, candidate for Montana's 1st Congressional District in western Montana, spent the morning in Lincoln County on Wednesday, October 25, to meet with county commissioners and host a roundtable discussion with community leaders from Troy, Eureka and Libby. The visit was part of her district-wide "I'm Listening, Montana" Tour launched earlier this month to connect with local leaders about the concerns and challenges they're facing and share her message of working for fairness, accountability, and freedom for all Montanans. The hour and a half roundtable discussion took place at Cabinet Mountain Brewing with some 25 leaders.
Chief takeaways included:
Conflicting federal policies, litigation, and a waning timber industry are preventing wildfire control and abatement.
Housing in Libby is unavailable, of poor quality, and too expensive for local wages.
Obtaining public funds is very difficult. There are bottlenecks at the state level, and effective grantwriters are in short supply.
Libby is a wonderful place to live and needs its issues solved.
